If you can support the project directly on an ongoing basis, I have set up a sponsorship platform on Patreon:
patreon.com/failingsky
Through this platform, pledge an amount every time I complete a scene. For those not yet familiar, Patreon is a genius take on Kickstarter/crowdfunding, reconfigured for ongoing projects just like this one.
But if ongoing sponsorship isn't your thing, consider purchasing prints & original art, making a one-time donation, or taking out an underwriting spot.
I am engineering the novel to be self-supporting, which is a big issue for independent artists in a capitalist economy - Failing Sky is, in fact, my attempt to prove that, with a new generation of DIY resources, self-publication can financially support a professional practice. Like most of you, though, I don't respond well to normal web advertisements.
For this reason I invite businesses, non-profits and individuals to take out "underwriting spots" by collaborating with me in hand-drawing material into the novel itself: perhaps as a poster or billboard in the background, a tasteful product-placement, or staging scenes inside of a business. Underwriting spots in Failing Sky are a long-term investment, as they will become a permanent part of the story. Prices are reasonable, and I want these spots to be mutually supportive, so I encourage other small businesses to become Failing Sky underwriters.
Page 4 of "The Runaway" is an example of a small underwriting spot, and there are countless possibilities for how yours could appear. Tell me what your business is and we can start talking about upcoming chapters: mailingsky@gmail.com.
collectible prints
The novel is being published serially, page by page, from July 2013 through about 2016. It is, and will always be, free to read, in order to make it accessible to a broad audience. The novel is formatted specifically for the internet, and as such can never be published in a paper form. Having some sort of physical component is important to me, though, so I have an ongoing series of collectible prints of select pages (and some linocuts), each of which will only be available for a limited time.
The best, most important, and delightfully dirt-cheap way to help this project is to increase its audience. Please, please forward this novel to anyone who might have an interest in the material, as my ability to produce the remaining 20-odd chapters depends entirely on finding a healthy readership.
The initial 7 chapters of this novel are being produced thanks to a wonderfully successful Kickstarter. Thank you everyone who made this dream a possibility with that first big push.
If you want to support the project, I recommend becoming an ongoing sponsor through my Patreon site.
If one-time donations are more your style, use my paypal donate button below. (As of today, producing Failing Sky has taken $84.58/page, so today's nice round suggested donation is $85)
